| Original Equipment Manufacturer support has ended | Typically occurs 10 years after model is phased out from production. Lack of support makes routine maintenance and recovery from downtime impractical, if not impossible. |
| Spare parts are unavailable | Once spare parts become unavailable, there is little option for maintaining/servicing the UPS or cooling system. |
| Excessive maintenance | As equipment ages, the need for maintenance increases. It is possible for the maintenance costs and risks to exceed the costs and benefits (capacity, efficiency, and reliability) of installing a new system. |
